Lately

Hey all. We’re in the midst of a heat-wave here in NYC. I do not recommend.

In the meantime, since things have been so busy, consider this post a “tasting menu” of “as-of-late.”

Since my last “legit” update, But I’m a Shoe has screened in 4 festivals.

WinterFest in NYC:

The easy commute allowed our editor, Maayan Gutterman, as well as cast member, Alexander Ferguson (Hamilton) to join me. We even had a couple of interviews, here and here.

Then there was the El Dorado Film Festival in AK. Wonderful wonderful people and hosts led by Alexander Jeffrey:

Alexander joined me once again for our screening at the Norwalk Film Festival in CT:

Alexander and I were on the festival podcast with director Sean Fox. You can listen here.

And even though I, sadly, could not go back to AK for the Rogers Film Festival, Shoe won “Best Professional Film” there!

Rogers’ director Drew Chambers will be in town later this week for an in-person belated award ceremony. Inside this fancy bag is a functional slate, which I think is very cool!

Shoe’s journey isn’t over. All upcoming screenings will be on the screening page once they’re announced.

I also attended the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival for the 3rd time. This year, I to to moderate two panels I put together thanks to the kindness of festival director, Susan Gorrell.

One was “From the Written Word to the screen” – all about adaptations from different kinds of written source materials. My friend, and Blood and Sex Over Ambition‘s director Gregory JM Kasunich, was one of the panelist. And what a better place for this kind of panel than the wonderful River Lights Bookstore.

The other one was a Festivals’ Executive Director Panel where we spoke with 5 (!) festival directors all about what it takes to run a festival (i.e. a big nonprofit), how to engage the community, and what their selection process is like.

It was also a real joy to host the post-screening Q&A for The Floaters, the Jewish summer camp film by my friends, the Korman siblings (which, as was announced 2 days ago, will receive a theatrical release starting July!).

Always a good time in DBQ!

Much more soon, as some other adventures are afoot, but in the mean time, drink a lot of water and take care of yourselves.

P.S. – Blood and Sex Over Ambition is deep in post-production. We’re hoping to see a rough cut later this month. Stay tuned!
